Casual Educational Presenter (Victoria) - May 2022

Minibeast Wildlife is seeking an outgoing person to join our Victorian team and run exciting educational programs using live invertebrates.

Position Description

  • Presentation of educational sessions using live invertebrates on site at schools, kindergartens, child care centres and special events.
  • Providing animals and assistance for media when required.
  • Travel to and from various venues across Victoria, carrying out the required set-up and pack-up of animals and equipment.
  • Basic animal husbandry duties.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Experience in public speaking or delivering educational programs
  • Experience in handling or working with live invertebrates is essential
  • A sound knowledge of natural history
  • Ability to keep a small collection of live invertebrates at your home
  • A current Drivers Licence and own car.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Applicants must have or be willing to get a Working with Children Check.

Applicants must be located within 60km of Melbourne’s CBD, with applicants to the west of the city being highly desirable. 

Minibeast Wildlife’s educational programs service a wide area of Victoria. Casual Presenters are required to keep a small collection of around 15 live invertebrates in their home for use in educational programs. Enclosures, shelving and some foods will be provided. These animals are to be transferred into display enclosures for the presentation, and transported to the required locations.

Casual hours of work are dependent on bookings, and can vary widely. Most shifts are on weekdays, but occasional weekend work may be required for special events. This position may suit someone who already has casual/part-time work elsewhere.

Starting pay rate is $30 per hour, with a minimum of 3 hours employment per shift for bookings. Remuneration of 3 hours per week is also paid for the care of the animals.
