Wrangling of insects, spiders and other invertebrates for film and TV productions

We have been working with the film and TV industry for over 20 years, working on factual wildlife documentaries, commercials and movies. Based in stunning Far North Queensland, Australia, we work with crews from the UK, USA, Europe and Australia. We provide a range of services including live invertebrate sourcing and provision, specialised set building, expert animal wrangling and shooting macro video, time-lapse and stills. We ensure you get the best value for your time and make every shot count.

With years of experience providing live insects, spiders and other invertebrates for use in film and TV productions, we take pride in our ethical approach and ability to enable natural behaviours of these animals to be captured on camera. If you need bugs for film or TV, you’ve come to the right place.

OUR assets

We hold and breed a diverse range of live invertebrates – most likely the greatest range in captivity within Australia. We can also source species on request. We have extensive networks throughout Australia and overseas and know how and where to acquire species.

Studio space and sPECIALISED SET BASES

We have an extensive studio space which provides an ideal location for invertebrate set-based shoots. Facilities include pneumatic set-bases that can be raised and lowered easily to allow a variety of shots to be captured with ease.

Our depth of practical experience gained from working constantly with a wide range of invertebrates allows us not only to predict behaviours for the camera, but also enables us to stimulate natural behaviours when and where required.

We can create stunning natural sets on a wide variety of scales and for terrestrial, subterranean and aquatic invertebrates. If you have a challenging species to shoot, we can problem solve and make it happen.

We have worked on a wide variety of productions from kids TV shows to high quality documentaries and films. We have wrangled and provided sets for techniques such as time-lapse, high-speed and cutting-edge 3D macro.

We have a base in Kuranda within the rainforest in far north Queensland Australia. This region boasts the greatest invertebrate diversity in Australia and stunning natural environments for filming in nature.

Our founder Alan Henderson is a professional macro photographer with a wealth of experience and published work. His expertise extends to the film set where he assists DOPs with his combined knowledge of animal behaviour, photography and lighting.

We have more than 20 years experience assisting the film and TV industry with invertebrate productions, including working on high-end blue-chip productions in conjunction with Sir David Attenborough.

Animal wrangling for documentaries

We have extensive experience working with production companies and crews from around the world and have hosted crews from high-end productions including the BBC, Disney, Plimsoll, National Geographic. We take a great deal of pride in our work and ensure that crews get great value from their time with us.

We spend considerable time pre-shoot in consultation and can provide valuable content advice and invertebrate species selection, particularly when the programs are seeking particular behaviours to build fascinating sequences and stories. We can suggest the best seasons to capture particular behaviours, and when particular Australian invertebrate species will be available. We can also provide vision we shoot ourselves for pick-ups, and since we are always surrounded by these animals we can capture behaviour that is unpredictable in its timing in up to 8K resolution.

Animal wrangling for advertising campaigns

Acquiring insects, spiders and other Australian invertebrates for use in advertising can be daunting and challenging for production teams that don’t work with these animals on a regular basis. We can provide the animals and expert wranglers, and more importantly can help you with your selection of the species which will be best for your production.
