INSECT INCURSIONS

Incursions with live insects and other invertebrates

Minibeast Wildlife is a leader in Australian wildlife education, and operates in Far North Queensland. We specialise in invertebrates, also known as bugs, minibeasts, creepy crawlies and other weird and wonderful names. We offer engaging educational incursions on site at venues or live and interactive online sessions. Participants will meet a fascinating array of live invertebrates including insects, arachnids, myriapods (centipedes and millipedes) and gastropods (snails and slugs). We want our wildlife education programs about minibeasts to be both valuable and memorable for your students.

School incursions with live invertebrates in line with the Australian Science Curriculum

For Australian school participants, our education incursions cover key concepts as outlined in the Australian Curriculum – Science category.

Foundation

  • Living things have basic needs, including food and water

Grade 1

  • Living things have a variety of external features and live in different places where their needs are met

Grade 2

  • Living things grow, change and have offspring similar to themselves

Grade 3

  • Living things can be grouped on the basis of observable features and can be distinguished from non-living things

Grade 4

  • Living things have life cycles and they depend on each other the environment to survive

Grade 5

  • Living things have structural features and adaptations that help them to survive in their environment

Grade 6

  • The growth and survival of living things are affected by physical conditions of their environment

Science education incursions tailor-made to your needs

We can adjust the content to your specific needs. In certain wildlife incursions, more advanced or focused topics can be covered on request.

On site educational incursions

We conduct educational incursions in Far North Queensland (Cairns region from Innisfail to Port Douglas, and throughout the Atherton Tablelands).

Each session is one hour in duration. 

Each on-site session can have a maximum of 30 participants. 

We can present a maximum of five sessions in a day at a venue. 

Prices do not include GST

Travel costs apply for distances greater than 50km from Minibeast Wildlife’s location (Kuranda, Queensland)

Online educational incursions

Each session consists of a 30 minute live presentation, plus a 10-15 minute question and answer time. Sessions are conducted via Zoom.

Each on-line session can have a maximum of 30 participants. 

We can present a maximum of five online sessions in a day per venue.
