At Minibeast Wildlife we take great pride in what we do. We are passionate about science, the environment and of course educating people about the amazing world of invertebrates and how critically important they are to us. 

Fixed term Part-time Invertebrate keeper – Minibeast Wildlife Kuranda, North QLD

Minibeast Wildlife is seeking an outgoing person to join our Far North QLD team. The position is a twelve-month, fixed-term position; four days per week (0.8 time fraction). The position has a three month probation period and there is potential for the position to be extended beyond 12 months.

Minibeast Wildlife is an educational wildlife business that focuses on invertebrates. Our work with live invertebrates is diverse and we have multiple areas of operation:

  • Educational school incursions
  • Live invertebrate husbandry (management and breeding). We supply live invertebrates for our own educational programs, as pets (Minibeast Wildlife Bugshop), classroom educational animals and display animals for zoos and museums)
  • Media production for TV and film
  • Macro photography
  • App and resource development

Position Description

  • Assist with the care and husbandry of our live invertebrate collection.
  • Assist with live invertebrate order dispatch.
  • Wrangling animals and assistance for media when required.
  • Presentation of educational sessions using live invertebrates on site at schools, kindergartens, child-care centres and special events.

Key Selection Criteria (necessary requirements for this role):

  • Experience in handling or working with live invertebrates in a captive environment
  • A demonstrated interest in, or passion for invertebrates
  • A sound knowledge of natural history
  • Must be available four days per week; Mondays and three other days each week
  • A current Drivers Licence.

Desirable Criteria (not necessary but please tell us if you have these):

  • Experience in public speaking or delivering educational programs
  • Experience with social media for brand promotion.
  • Experience in writing for science communication

Applicants must have or be willing to get a Blue Card.

Pay rate is $30 per hour (30.4 hours per week / $912 before tax)
